The Burnet side of the family goes back to the earliest settlers of this country and has its roots on Long Island, New York, in while still under Dutch rule. That family intermarried with the Dutch of New York City and flourished in trade and medicine, playing significant roles in the early growth of this nation. We visited Scotland and Crathes Castle, seat of the Burnet family. My husband is a Burnet. Gilbert Burnet is a distant ancestor. Our son teaches history, taught at West Point. I bought this book for him. I see some similarities between him and Bishop Gilbert Burnet/5(2).
